FIRE HAZARD WARNING: LOW

LOW:  Wildfires do not readily ignite, unless from a more intense heat source like lightning. Weather and fuel conditions lead to low intensity and relatively easy to control fires. However, caution should always be taken with any type of burning.

Fire Permits are now available at the Village Office.

For further information, please contact the Village Office at 780-963-4211.

ALBERTA WEED CONTROL ACT

New Alberta Weed Control Act: Prohibited Noxious Weeds (46):
"prohibited noxious weeds - a person shall destroy a prohibited noxious weed that is on land the person owns or occupies".

New Alberta Weed Control Act: Noxious Weeds (29):
"noxious weeds - a person shall control a noxious weed that is on land the person owns or occupies".

On June 16, 2010 the new Alberta Weed Control Act was proclaimed.  The new Act will deal with invasive plants that threaten natural ecosystems in addition to agricultural lands.  Changes to note in the new act is that the categories of Restricted, Noxious and Nuisance weeds have been replaced by Prohibited Noxious and Noxious weeds.  The Village must issue a weed notice for Prohibited Noxious weeds and property owners shall destroy any weeds under this designation.  Weed notices will be posted on the property where the weed infestation is found.  Under the current list of weed species there are 46 plants in the Prohibited Noxious category and 29 in the Noxious category.  The new Act will not contain any native plants as the old Act could contain native plants.

Residents of the Village of Spring Lake will be required to destroy weeds identified as Prohibited Noxious on their property and control weeds identified as Noxious. Please take the time to review the Alberta Weed Control Act and other relevant information about Noxious weeds in the link attached:
